We're on to day 28 of the 30 Day Map Challenge and today's theme is "Black":
(Black Friday) Interpret the theme of Black. The map can be purely monochromatic, represent absence/darkness (e.g., light pollution), or relate to themes of consumption.
When I was building one of the first Power BI custom map visuals for a client nearly 10 years ago, I implemented a real-time daylight terminator - showing where on earth it's currently day and night. It's one of my favourite features, and so had to make it into Icon Map.

The daylight terminator in Icon Map Slicer is enabled by simply flipping the toggle switch in the Overlays and Reference layers formatting section. It has some settings available to set the colours and transparency.
For this map, given the theme, I've chosen our DataViz Black background map style and I've opted to remove the standard place labels. On top of that I've enabled hill-shading and customised the colours with some darker options, and tweaked the angle of the lighting.
I've also added a custom Map Labels overlay layer, and set the label colour to be white, with a dark surround so it pops out. I made sure the Z-Index was high so the place names appear over the daylight terminator.
