Map Labels

The Map Labels overlay options allow you to display place names independently from the background layer. This is useful for displaying place names over your data layers which might entirely obscure the background layer. Map labels can be sourced from Icon Map Pro, Mapbox, Azure Maps or Esri ArcGIS with an appropriate key.

Icon Map Pro. Mapbox and ArcGIS labels allow you to select a label style. The Esri OSM labels also allow the ability to pick the language of the label to be displayed. With Mapbox you optionally can specify the URL or a custom style.

The Z-Index allows you to set the order of the label. Each of the layers in Icon Map Pro can have a different Z-Index. To ensure the labels appear on top, set the Z-Index to the largest number.

Ensure that ArcGIS authentication has been configured before selecting ArcGIS map labels.

Map Labels from Icon Map

When Icon Map is selected as a source, the labels from all the available background maps are available to select as the label style.

Min and Max zoom determine the map zoom levels at which the labels appear.

For styles based on Protomaps, you can specify the language. It is possible to set the language to match your Power BI report by passing a DAX expression. The value should be a string containing the 2 letter code representing the language. Refer to the table below for values.

Selecting "Custom" additionally enables formatting options allowing you to change the colors of the labels:
